Dr. Lise Meitner
Birthplace: Austria
Lise Meitner was born on November 7, 1878, in Austria, Vienna. Meitner is mostly known for her pioneering work in nuclear fission. In 1918, working with her colleague, Otto Hahn, she discovered the element, protactinium. Later in her career, Meitner was able to provide the physical explanation for the phenomena underlying processes that became known as nuclear fission, which was critical to understanding nuclear physics during that time. Although she was not awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry along with her colleague, Hahn, in 1966 she and Hahn were jointly honored with the Enrico Fermi Award by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Wienerschnitzel

Wienerschnitzel (also spelled Wiener Schnitzel) is one of Austria’s national dishes. It is a fried, thin meat cutlet (specifically veal, but it can also be made with pork or chicken). Interestingly, traditional Austrian Wienerschnitzel ingredients and preparation are defined by Austrian law. Lise Meitner might have enjoyed this dish with family or friends.
BASIC INGREDIENTS
Yield: 4 - 6 cutlets
4 (5-ounce) veal cutlets (or chicken or pork cutlets)
1/4 cup all-purpose (or brown rice flour)
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
2 large eggs, well beaten
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
Oil or lard, for frying
4 slices lemon, garnish
